Board games are great ways to have fun at parties and get-togethers. They allow you to step into the shoes of a general or a hero or a mage, and compete against your friends. The game we’ll be talking about today let you take form of a T.I.M.E agent that can travel through eons and solve various cases and missions. Welcome to T.I.M.E Stories.
A Different Kind of Game
Instead of taking you to mysterious lands with dragons and demons, T.I.M.E Stories takes you to the future. The game has you playing as an agent of T.I.M.E, an organization of time-travelling cops that solve cases that threaten the very fabric of the space-time continuum. In T.I.M.E Stories you won’t play just as yourself, but you’ll be jumping into the shoes of different people with different “stats” and abilities, and try solving the case.
T.I.M.E Stories is a game quite a bit different from the games you may have played so far. There is no way to die in the game, and there’s no way to really lose. Instead, you complete missions, and are rated on how you complete them. Not only that, but, if you botched the mission, you may play it again and make better decisions this time.
The game plays by utilizing a die. Each player can move from one area to another, and a die is rolled to see how many TUs (Time Units) they’re using. There is a meter provided with the game that shows how many TUs do you have available. The point of the game is to finish your mission in as few turns as possible, and using as few TUs. After you’ve spent all of your TUs or completed the mission, you return to starting position and get another mission.
T.I.M.E Stories also includes cards that as an integral part of the game. These cards contain characters and character information such as their health, resistance to damage and any special traits they may have. Each time you start a new mission, you’ll get another character to play with, and so on until the game is over.
All in all, this is definitely a different kind of game, and that makes it unique and interesting. The rounds are fast and the game offers plenty of diversity to the players. The game does have die which represents the RNG factor, but it’s minimalized. T.I.M.E Stories is all about the story and all about being immersed in that story, together with the characters. So, if you’re really into story-driven games and detest munchkins, then T.I.M.E Stories is the game for you.
